1. What is Computer? Explain the block diagram of the Computer system. Discuss the working principles and applications of Computer. 6


2. Write notes on the following:

(a) Hardware and software 

(b) Processing unit of computer 

(c) Output devices of the computer.  2x3=6 


SECTION—B 

3. What do you mean by computer memory? What are standard units of computer memory? Explain memory organization and types of memory. 6


4. Define computer memory. Explain types and features of

(i) primary memory and 

(ii) secondary memory in detail. 6


SECTION—C 

5. (a) What do you mean by software ? Discuss different categories of software. 3


(b) What do you mean by programming languages? Explain the generations of programming languages.   3   


   

6. Computer is a very important machine and has a number of applications. Discuss the applications of computers in fields like education, remote sensing, and industries.6

7. What is an operating system? Name a few most commonly used operating systems. Explain the functions of the operating system in detail. 


8. (a) Justify the statement that "a computer is an important tool of communication”. 3

(b) What do you mean by computer networks and network protocol? How LAN is different from WAN?

9. (a) What do you mean by an input device? Which is your favorite input device? How does it work and why is that device your favorite? 2


(b) Differentiate the sequential access memory and direct access memory. Also, give the examples of both types. 2
