Section –A
1.     Any ten of the following in brief :-
a.     Explain ductile materials.
b.     Define normal and sheer stresses.
c.      What do you understand by bulk modulus of elasticity?
d.     Define different types of support used in a beams.
e.      Define shear force and sing convention used for it .
f.       Define theorem of parallel axes in second moment of area.
g.     Write the bending equation and define the abbreviation used in it
h.     Draw the shear stress distributed in I- section and label it.
i.       Write the moment area theorem and define the abbreviation used in it.
j.       What is the theory of columns? Explain
k.     What is the effect of wind pressure on walls?
l.       Define different types of frames.

Section –B

2.     Attempt any three of the following

a.     Find the moment in inertia of the section shown in figure 1 about x and t axes.
b.     The intensity of loading on a simply supported beam of 5 m span increases uniformly from 8 at one end to 16 Kn/m at the other end.
Find the position and magnitude of the max B.M. also draw SFD and BMD.
c.      A water / main of 1.20 m internal diameter and 12 mm thick is running full. If the bending stress is not to exceed 56 N/mm2. Find the greatest span on which pipe may be freely supported. Steel and water weigh 76.80 Kn/m3 and 10 Kn/m3 respectively.
d.     Determine the forces in various members of the truss shown in figure 2.
