ES-344 : TEACHING OF ENGLISH

Time : 3 Hours                                                                      Maximum Weightage : 70%

Note : (i) All questions are compulsory.

(ii) All questions carry equal weightage.

1. Answer the following question in about 600 words.

English is a second language in India. However, for those studying in English Medium schools, it becomes the first language though not necessarily the mother tongue. How will the teaching of English differ in the two cases?

OR

What approach to ELT will you advocate- Grammar Translation, Structural or Communication? Give reasons for your choice.

2. Answer the following question in about 600 words.

Which are the four language skills ? Which one of them do you think is the most important ? Give reasons for your answer.

OR

Discuss what activities you would organised for developing reading skills in your students.

3. Attempt any four of the following questions in about 150 words each :

(a) What is the difference between extensive reading and intensive reading?

(b) What is the role of grammar in language teaching?

(c) How will you develop listening skills among your students?

(d) Discuss the important of writing skills in language learning.

(e) Listening and speaking go together. Illustrate with an activity for your students

(f) What, according to you is the most important quality of a good English Teacher ? Give a reasoned answer.

4. Answer the following question in about 600 words.

How will you teach a poetry lesson to class 9th student ? Develop a lesson plan selecting any poem you like.
