Section A
1.     Fill in the blanks:

2.      Attempt any five questions
a.     Differentiate between ideal fluid and real fluid.
b.     Explain clearly with sketches the term centre of pressure.
c.      Water is flowing though a pipe 10cm diameter with an average velocity of 20m/sec. Determine the discharge through the pipe in litters per second.
d.     What are the different energies of moving fluid? Explain each one of them
e.      State the common defects which occur in a centrifugal pump.
f.       Differentiate between impulse turbine and reaction turbine.

Section –C

3.     Attempt any two questions

a.     A horizontal pipe 200mm diameter suddenly enlarges to 300mm diameter and then after some length it suddenly reduces to 150mm diameter. If the water flowing in the pipe be 200 liters/sec (a) Loss of head due to sudden enragement ( b) loss of head due to sudden contraction.
b.     A venturimeter has an area ratio of 9 to 1,  the larger diameter being 30cm. During the flow, the recorded pressure head in the larger section is 6.5m and that at the throat is 4.25m. if meter co-efficient is 0.99 find the discharge though the metre in litres/ sec.

c.      Explain the construction and working of the following (a) reciprocating pump (b) hydraulic ram.
